The Delmar Fire Department and Rescue Squad is made up of caring men and
women who provide fire and ambulance service in the Town of Bethlehem in
Albany County, New York. Since 1911, the Department's volunteers have
been devoting their time to protecting their community. Today, the Department's more than eighty volunteers respond to more than 2000 calls for assistance per year. In 2006, the Delmar Fire Department's members
dedicated approximately 20,000 volunteer hours to provide emergency
services and in training.
The Department's highly trained firefighters use four fire trucks to
protect more than 3,700 homes and businesses in the Delmar Fire
District. The firefighters are at ready 24 hours a day, 7 days a week,
365 days a year to respond to fires, traffic accidents, rescue
situations, hazardous conditions, downed electrical wires, floods, and
other emergencies.
The Department's Rescue Squad is the sole provider of ambulance service
for the more than 8,700 homes and businesses in the hamlets of Delmar,
Elsmere, and Slingerlands. More than 25 Emergency Medical Technicians
(EMTs) and Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians use three ambulances
to respond to calls around the clock.
